New Beginnings That Aren't So New

 A New Year

And a new beginning

Or is it new at all

But rather a repeat

Of both good and bad

As we continue forward

And maybe even backward

Never really ever changing

Rather just lying to others

But mainly to ourselves

That life will get better 

And we can get better

When reality says different

As we spin our wheels

Year after year after year

Hoping for change

And improvement

But always falling short

And then settling for it

Selling and accepting

The same old bill of goods

Scamming ourselves

Year after year after year

With each New Year
