Responding to the Critical with Silence

Why are some folks so critical?
It bothers me, but I remain silent
Patiently listening to complaints
Hoping the negativity will end
And trying to see the bright side
All the while biting my tongue
While channeling my thoughts
Finding distractions in my mind
Accentuating the positive
But sometimes hurting inside
Wishing the negativity away
All with calm and patient silence
