The Day After Christmas
It is the day after Christmas
And all of the merritment seems gone
As the world returns to its bleak realities
Of surviving the day to day chaos of living
And working and trying to make it through
To the next day and next week and next year
All while paying the bills, taxes, and mortgage
And still having enough left over to gas up the car. . .
Why, oh why do we have to grow up?
Knowing that Santa Claus was always checking
To see if we were being naughty or nice
And playing with Christmas toys
On the day after Christmas
Was far better
Than facing life as an adult.
